Have you been walking recently? The family Circle staff certainly has! Yesterday we left the office a little early, put on matching red Family Circle shirts, strapped on our iPods and headed downtown to the American Heart Association 2007 Start! Wall Street Run and Heart Walk. The route zigzagged 3.1 miles through downtown Manhattan and had a few small hills that pushed us even harder. Some of our staffers power walked, others took a leisurely stroll and some took off running and soon as the starting horn went off. We all had a wonderful time and were able to raise money for a great cause. Check out the official times for our runners below—not bad!

This was my first walk/run ever ... and I had a great time! Running through the streets of lower Manhattan was certainly a challenge: jumping on and off curbs, doging Wall Street workers heading home for the day, trying not to break my ankle on cobblestone streets. But it was so worth it! I felt great afterward. And I think I have a new hobby! Now if I can just convince some of the other FC staffers to join me ...
I hadn't run in a race in a long time--not since I had kids. (Though my husband and I met at a race in Central Park.) And I hadn't even run that much myself as of late. So I was really psyched by how I did--especially because I felt like I could have kept going! I placed 213 in my age group (I think somewhere in the middle of the pack). When I got home, my eight-year-old son immediately asked, "Mommy, did you win?" When I shook my head with a smile, he asked, "Did you come in 10th place?" It's wonderful to have your kids believe in your abilities in that way. I just said, "Not even close, but I had a great time." See you at the next race!
