With the relentlessly cold, rainy spring weather I was worried about keeping up my walking workouts—it’s hard for me to get motivated to walk outside in bad weather and nearly impossible to get my kids out there. So I decided to buy a treadmill. It’s a NordicTrack ViewPoint 3000 and I love it. It’s fairly compact and very easy to use. It has a 7-inch cable/DVD-ready flat screen TV (so I can walk while watching the morning news or keep up with Grey’s Anatomy at night), a music port to connect my iPod, speakers, and a cool feature called “iFit” which utilizes special flash memory cards that automatically adjust the treadmill’s incline and speed. The iFit system also works as a personal trainer to motivate me through my workout with tips on correct breathing, good posture, and more. With the treadmill I have no problem reaching at least 10,000 steps and day and no excuses not to walk. My three kids are hooked—often fighting over who gets to use the treadmill! And my husband, who never thought he could get a tough enough workout by walking on a treadmill, realized he was wrong and loves it too.

Hi There! I'm having the exact opposite problem. It's getting way too hot to walk long distances here in Florida so we have switched to cycling. I'm not sure whether you all know it or not but pedometers don't register biking or skating well at all. So, even though I'm biking 30 miles a day, my steps are only around 5000. I can't seem to find a "HELP" email to ask how to convert my riding time to step mileage. Can one of you all help or forward this question on to someone who can? I would truly appreciate it! Thanks so much! Keep on trucking and don't look back!
Linda, I just read your May editors letter, and had to comment. I, too, when my boys were younger, would walk with them, it was a great way to talk things out & connect especially during those trying times. I had posted earlier that I was walking in honor of my son, who is going to Iraq. He has since shipped out, I have given him the note to let him know my goal, since he had been staying with us for 3 weeks before he left he finally got my newest "addiction",it was a very touching moment for both of us. I am well on my way to the 5609 mile goal, with a very long way to go! I had asked if it would be possible if this log site could be kept up for longer than the challenge, to see how I , and others could do? No comments on any of the blogs that I have noticed. Any idea if that would be possible? Well, its back to the treadmill for me.. to cool here for outside still, Happy walking!! Lisa, in DF, Maine
